Depression etc

For more than fifteen years I've been on a rollercoaster journey through Depression and Anxiety. I call Depression "The Black Dog". Sometimes the dog is chained up safely and I can walk along freely. Other times that darned mutt escapes and tries to chase me down, nipping at my heels and forcing me to run for cover.

Along the way I also found out that I am Dyslexic (at the age of 43) - this new understanding has made the world of difference and helps me understand why I am vulnerable to both depression and anxiety.

Living in Depression's shadow is a reality for one in every five people. Yet we fear speaking out about it, ashamed that our struggles mark us as "less-than". There is still too much shame around this affliction.

I have felt compelled to share my journey here on my blog so that others can emerge from the shadows too. If you struggle with this, you are not alone. You are also not worthless, not hopeless, not helpless. There is hope. No quick fixes, no miracle cures, but hope.

These are my thoughts and feelings, things that help me, things that give me hope.
I pray they will encourage you too.
