It's hard to believe, but WE DID IT! Me and Miss fab raised the money necessary (around NZ$2,500) and we're GOING TO HAWAII tomorrow night!
Phew.
It seemed like an unattainable goal, in the beginning, but the two of us worked together to pull it off.
We used every skill and bright idea in our arsenal of tricks to raise money, without once asking for handouts from anyone.
And we did it!
We reached our goal to get our little cheerleader to Hawaii to compete in the Global Dance and Cheer Games with her team.
Only one more sleep.
Bags need to to be packed tonight; tickets and Passports stowed safely.
There's a Showcase at 3pm today for all the Auckland teams going to show off their routines to admiring family and friends. We can't wait.
But first, here's a recap of how we did it...
WE HAD A GARAGE SALE:
Yep, we sold all the stuff that was cluttering up our garage. One man's junk is another man's treasure, right? We raised $500 from that. And sold coffee to the -punters while we were at it.
I MADE GARLANDS AND SOLD THEM:
I used my circle punch and my sewing machine and whipped up some vintage paper garlands, which I sold to some of you. Thank You! I raised about $60 from that effort. Not heaps, but it all adds up, right?
WE HOSTED A FANCY HIGH TEA IN OUR GARDEN:
This was so much fun! We sold tickets to a gorgeous bunch of women, mums and daughters, aunties and sisters who came and enjoyed fancy afternoon tea. There was so much laughter, it was warm-fuzzy fabulous.
I'll post about that some day, how to host one. It was so enjoyable. And so pretty.
We raised about $430.
WE HOSTED A POP-UP CAFE IN OUR GARDEN:
Our Garden Pop-Up Cafe was the piece de resistance! Such a fabulous event, supported by our community and assisted by Miss Fab's wonderful friends. It was non-stop hard work, but so much fun that we plan to host another one in the lead-up to Christmas. We raised around $530.
WE DELIVERED FLYERS FOR DAD'S BUSINESS
The Daddy of the house paid us (very well) to deliver 1000 flyers for his business around our suburb. We did this over two separate Saturdays, walking up and down streets, and even up Mount Albert summit.
It was very satisfying to poke the last flyer into the last letterbox and heave a sigh of relief that the job was done.
If you've been adding up the totals and thinking, hey that doesn't add up to $2,500! you're right. There were lots of other little odd jobs, bits of writing and design that I did to round out the total.
And we achieved our goal. Together.
I am so proud of my hard-working girl.
She threw herself into the challenge and worked her butt off to get herself to Hawaii.
Now she can pat herself on the back and enjoy the fruits of her labours... it's going to be FABulous.
