China Ancient Town - a Fab Adventure

One of our favourite days in China was our trip to this Ancient Town on the river. It's not just walking around and admiring old stuff, oh no. Around every corner is something new to taste or see or buy.

We are greeted by flower sellers who have crafted wreaths for us to wear...

For five kuai ($1) we become princesses...

The town is full of life and activity as well as ancient history...
Boats on the river...

Building sites, China style... (yes that's bamboo scaffolding)

Most people walk, but if you want you can ride in one of these...

5000 years of history sits comfortably side by side with bumper cars and shooting galleries...
Everywhere there are friendly faces and cute babies to admire...

There are mobs of admirers, paparazzi who want to take your photo
if you are young and cute and foreign...

(our daughters are in there somewhere)

There are plenty of interesting treats to try...
(but walk swiftly past the stinky tofu stall and hold your nose.
It's called "stinky" for a reason. Peeeuew!)

Left = Smoked soy beans; Right = grilled rabbit heads. (Guess which one I tried?)

(It's not just candy, it's ART and a game: Spin the wheel to see which one you get)

This girl spent all day pulling candy

And of course there are plenty of bargains to be had.
Pink Bunny = $3 Cute Shoes = $7
The Experience = Priceless

Can you see why we loved China???
