Four Seasons

To Everything there is a Season
And a Time for Every purpose under heaven...

So the song goes.
The sun is shining as I sit here in my cardigan and slippers, but there is a nip in the air.
The season has turned.
The humidity is gone.
Summer is over and Autumn is here.

It's not that I don't like Summer.
I love the idea of summer.
It's just the reality that has me gasping for the change of season.
Some people can't function in the cold.
Me? It's the heat I can't take. The heat and humidity sees me flopping about like a stranded flounder.
I would have made a good eskimo.

Summer certainly does have its good points.
In fact, were it not for the humidity, I would be in love with Summer too.
The smell of cut grass. The holiday feeling. Swimming. Walking on the beach. Reading in the shade.

But Autumn. Autumn has the golden days without the humidity hair.
Autumn has crispy mornings and cosy evenings as well as sunshine.

But Simone, what about Winter??!! you are probably exclaiming. Autumn means that Winter is coming!

Yeah yeah. Winter is just not that big of a deal for me.
I mean, come on. I live in Auckland.
We don't really know what cold is.
My kids have inherited my love of rain on the roof and cuddling on the couch under blankets.
What's not to love about that?

OK, I take your point. Walking in the rain to school? A definite downside.
Wet feet, soggy pantlegs. OK. I never said Winter was my favourite.
I just don't mind it that much, is all.
After all I get to wear layers!

And then there's Spring. Spring comes after Winter. Pretty spring.
Spring bursting with flowers and new life.
The scent of freesias. First BBQs. The anticipation of Summer.

Every season has its good points, right? And no season lasts forever.

This is what I am telling myself. Because Life has its Seasons too.
Summertime doesn't last forever. But neither does Winter.
Hearts filled with winter are cold. Stormy nights are only cosy when you're not out in the rain.

It's still raining here. And there's a hole in my roof.

I LOVE the change in weather that has hit this week. The mornings are so crisp and then they turn into beautiful blue sky days without the suffocating humidity.

Hope the 'rain' clears up for you soon Simone.

So thankful for seasons, and that they don't drag on for too long. All my love - and praying the hole in your 'roof' gets mended soon. xoxo

It was frickin' freezing here yesterday. Thought Auckland had given Autumn the flick.

I love that we know that each season has an end... even if sometimes it merges into the next season in one blurry haze!xx

Try living in Welly for a winter...you'd know all about cold then! Sadly I don't think I ever appreciated how WARM the 15 or so winters I spent in Auckland actually were...I so would now!

Still lifting you and Team G up in prayer xx
